Santorini's Stellar Sunset JH ~ "Oia" (CH Camelot's Stellar Tarika JH (Terry) x Quail Quest's Cover Girl JH (Christie)) Loved, Spoiled Rotten & Painfully missed by Barbara & Fred Lindstrom, Anna & Fred Defenbaugh ~ Spartanburg, SC March 24, 2001 ~ July 14th, 2006 "You'll remember me as the West wind blows, among the fields of barley; You can see the sun in his jealous sky as we walk through fields of gold"
Oia was named after a small town on the tip of the island of Santorini (Greece) where some of the most breath-taking sunsets on Earth can be seen... Oia is the puppy my parents kept out of Christie's first litter. She flew through her Junior Hunter title at just over 7 months old, earning 4 straight passes in her first 4 hunt tests. She was the first puppy out of her litter to be titled. She demonstrated a strong drive in the field 'right out of the whelping box', but her career was cut short after a serious bout of Spinal Meningitis due to Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever which took too long to diagnose and required several months of therapy & recovery. Ultimately, the side & after effects took their toll, and Oia crossed over the Rainbow Bridge at the young age of 5. Unfortunately, tick-borne illnesses (including Lyme's disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever & Ehrlichia, for example) are becoming all too common across the USA. Due to Oia's illness, we have learned quite a bit about these ailments ~ feel free to contact us if you would like to receive the article I put together for the Vizsla Club of the Carolinas Newsletter.
